Housework – a good thing…? (Part 2)

by | Nov 9, 2009

Can housework be a good thing? (Again!)

Now I am a self-confessed Undomestic Goddess.

I am not naturally inclined to clean and tidy.

I am a million miles away from the Perfect Housewife.

And yet…

The other day, I had a few precious minutes of un-spoken-for time on my hands and what did I choose to do with it?

Well, believe it or not, I actually went looking for some housework!

Admittedly, I didn’t have to look very far…but the point is, I was motivated to do housework.

Now what strange magic was at work?

What could this new driving force possibly be?

What awesome power could be behind such a freak occurrence?

Well, the good news is, the answer is a simple one.

The even better news is, you can quite easily get your hands on it, too!

And the answer is…

Audiobooks.

It’s true!

I was so engrossed in my audiobook as I went about my chores, that I didn’t want to stop!

Powerful stuff, I think you’ll agree.

Normally, I tolerate essential housework (on a good day) but it’s actually unheard of for me to go and seek out more!

The particular audiobook I was listening to was Brian Tracy’s Success Mastery Academy (I’m a self-development junkie…) and I was enjoying it so much that I was reluctant to stop listening when I had completed my essential chores (ie the ones that pose a health hazard…)

So, I actually got to tackle those non-essential jobs (ie the ones that usually get left since no-ones life is at stake – perhaps you’re familiar?)

Quite a result.

And one that I could do with making use of a little more often, around here.

So that is precisely my plan.

Audiobooks vs housework

Audiobooks are now my new best friend and my home is going to look and feel so much the better for it.

Who’d have thought the day would come when I happily did all my housework…

So, I invite you to explore the joys of audiobooks.

If you are faced with more housework than you’d like, they can really help you take your mind off the boredom, monotony and futility.

In fact, they’re the ultimate multi-tasking device.

You can catch up on some reading, eliminate that negative mind-chatter and make your home more presentable – all at the same time.

In fact, whether you’re an avid reader or more of a TV person – you may soon find audiobooks are addictive.

It’s human nature to enjoy stories or learning (ask any child).

So why not indulge these basic human pleasures as you get on with your work?

And there are so many to choose from that all you have to do is find one that interests you, load it onto your portable device and enjoy!

You can buy audiobooks all over the place these days or you can even get them from your library.

However, I find the quickest and easiest way is to have an account with an online audiobook publisher.

My favourite is Audible – they have an enormous range. (And they’re currently offering a free trial.)

So, there you have it – Audiobooks.

A quick and easy way to take the sting out of domestic work.

Why not give them a whirl?

Your house may never be the same again…

PS If you do actually run out of housework before you finish your book – firstly, I take my hat off to you.

And secondly, you can also enjoy your audiobooks when driving, decorating, walking, travelling etc…

In fact, Bob Proctor cites listening to ‘success-tapes’ whilst on the road as one of the hallmarks of high achievers.

So, with your headphones on, you can conquer your home – and then take on the world. 🙂
